APPLICATION

Decking is the foundation for a comfortable outdoor area: a veranda, patio, poolside area, or garden path. Properly treated, natural wood retains its shape for decades and is resistant to rain, sun, and temperature fluctuations.

Types of Decking by Species and Process

The most common options are pine, larch, and ash. Larch decking is chosen for its natural resin content: the material is dense, rot- and insect-resistant without the need for additional chemicals. Its light, golden color looks great in classic designs. Ash decking, and especially thermo-treated ash, is next level. After heat treatment, ash darkens to a chocolate or coffee tone, absorbs virtually no moisture, and does not crack or warp. Its service life easily exceeds 25 years, even outdoors.

Pine decking is the most affordable solid wood. Without heat treatment, it requires regular impregnation, but once impregnated, it becomes thermo-pine—a stable, bio-resistant material with a pleasant cognac hue.

Thermally Modified Wood: Why It's Better Than Regular Wood

Terrowood decking is treated with hot steam without chemicals. Moisture is displaced, the pores are closed, and the board becomes 3-5 times more resistant to fungus, mold, and swelling. Its environmental friendliness remains comparable to that of natural wood, and maintenance is minimal: re-oiling the decking every 2-3 years is sufficient to maintain its color. Terrowood pine and thermally modified ash are the best value for money: the former is more affordable, while the latter offers a premium finish in density and appearance.

Comparison: What to Choose for Your Budget and Conditions

Under a canopy or in the shade, inexpensive boards made of regular pine or basic thermally modified pine are suitable. For an open terrace exposed to rain and sun, it's better to choose thermally modified wood, thermally modified ash, or larch. Terrally modified pine is the golden mean: 1.5–2 times cheaper than ash, but close to premium quality in terms of characteristics. It is also often used as façade planks or joist beams. Deck boards are typically 3–4 meters long, though 2 or 5–6 meters are less common. Choose the size to suit the dimensions of your terrace to minimize the number of joints.

What to consider when choosing

  • Grade: AB, A, or Extra
  • Profile: "corduroy" for non-slip properties or smooth for furniture and barefoot use
  • Geometry: Boards should be even, without twisting or significant deflection
  • Moisture: High-quality dried wood is more stable in use
  • Region of use: Thermally modified wood is preferable for humid climates

Our selection includes proven options with precise geometry, consistent drying, and a proven service life. You can choose from budget-friendly thermally modified pine to premium thermally modified ash—all without overpaying. This material truly delivers years of service without additional maintenance costs.
